Damask Stencil
Basecoat:
Sheen of your choice

Tools:
Brush, stippling brush, stencil, tape 2", level

Glaze:
Tinted to the color of your choice

Number of people:
One

Tips:
  • Glaze may also be applied with a slim-jim roller.
  • Clean brush and stencil frequently to prevent paint from building up in the head of the brush and around the edges of the stencil.
  •
Prepare to paint: After the basecoat dries and you are ready to apply the stencil, you must first protect your trim and ceiling. Using 2" tape, cover the top of the floor trim, the door trim, and the area joining the ceiling. Protect the floor with a drop cloth.

Step 1: Measure the width of the stencil and then the width of the dominant wall and plan the number of times the stencil overlay will fit across the surface area.

Step 2: Using your tape, place the stencil on the wall. Check the placement of your stencil with a level to ensure a straight design. Create registration marks…

Step 3: Dip your stipple brush in your glaze and stipple the surface of the stencil until it is all covered.

Step 4: Remove stencil and then align the registration marks to continue. Repeat until the wall is complete.
