|
| Step 1: Roll out a thin basecoat in white Decorative Plaster. This gives the textured foundation for the faux copper tiles. | |
| Step 2: Approximate your block size according to the dimensions of the area to be painted (5" by 5" is a good average). | |
Step 3: Using pencil, level and ruler, lay out your surface tiles with square blocks in thin light lines.
| |
Step 4:
Place 1/16" tape directly over the lines you just created. Make sure
that tape is pressed firmly into place in order to avoid paint
materials from bleeding.
Step 5: Mark a light pencil x inside tile blocks intended for a copper finish.
| |
Step 6:
Apply white Decorative Plaster in a cross hatching technique with
plaster knife. Avoid applying any paint within x marked blocks. Let
dry. | |
| Step 7: Repeat step 5 in order to build smooth plaster layers. | |
Step 8:
Once dry, wash board with orange pigment. One pass with a light wash,
the second pass using more pigment and paying special attention to
outside edges of each tile for a natural look.
| Step 9: Using Brown Tape, tape off area around designated copper tiles. The tape should be pressed firmly so as to protect area just painted. | |
Step 10:
Apply a thick layer of black Decorative Plaster over x marked blocks.
After each application lay cardboard over wet plaster with light
pressure. Slowly raise cardboard for instant texture. Allow for extra
drying time to accommodate the thickness of the plaster.
| Step 11: Time to make use of your stencil. Center stencil over textured tiles and apply a smooth application of black plaster, fully covering the stencil surface. | |
Step 12: Use the standard mini roller to evenly roll the surface with Elite Metallic Bronze.
| |
Step 13:
Complete the finish with Oxford Black pigment wash. Break up the
undertones by alternately lightening and darkening some areas.
Step 14:
Frame grout lines with realistic shadows. Dab artist brush with
Hartford Brown pigment for your finishing touch.
|
Alternate Texture Tile Backsplash Effect: |
|
Try painting a mural over your tile backsplash! Apply white decorative
plaster to all backsplash blocks, skipping over the black plaster
application and Elite Metallic Bronze. After allowing the Orange Orange
pigment wash to dry, let creativity be your guide and try your hand at
painting a personalized mural. The finished effect will be an
impressive backsplash focal point.
